AI021 Director of Operations (Permanent)

CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
This is a critical time for the client organization. All of their operational contracts and grant agreements are up for tender in 2010/11. The Operations Director’s role will be to lead the operations directorate in developing new service models and ensuring that the organization submits bids that are innovative and price competitive, whilst providing excellent service. The post holder will also provide strong strategic leadership to the Operations Directorate in delivering a wide range of services.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To lead the operations group in delivering excellent and cost effective services to beneficiaries/client groups
• To work with the Deputy Chief Executive and Operations Managers to ensure that the organization is able to submit high quality and ultimately successful bids to run services to beneficiaries/client groups 
• To drive a process of efficiency saving, consistent with predicted trends in public spending, whilst maintaining the integrity of services
• To line manage the Heads of Operations and the PA to the Operations Director
• To work closely with the Deputy Chief Executive to ensure that the organization has robust management information about its operational work, and that future bids are realistically costed
• To work closely with the Marketing Director and the Head of Fundraising to ensure that they are submitting successful funding bids for services, and that this project funding is being managed effectively at operational level
• To work closely with the Deputy Chief and Operations Managers Executive to ensure that gaps in service delivery, and opportunities for new business, are identified and developed
• To be part of the senior management team
• To lead, on behalf of the SMT, the development of a new client database
• To oversee and provide strategic guidance on the development of and delivery of new London based day services

3. An ability to lead and motivate staff during a challenging period
4. An understanding of the power of diversity, and an ability to harness a diverse staff and volunteer group to deliver positive results
5. Strong financial management skills
6. An understanding of the data and technical requirements for effective client focussed service delivery
7. Strong negotiating skills
8. An ability to innovate and provide a clear vision for service delivery
9. A commitment to the work of the organization                                                                                                                 10. An understanding of quality frameworks as they apply to voluntary sector service delivery.
